I have a confession to make, I’ve built hundreds of gaming PCs, most of them having an Nvidia card for the sake of good graphics. But Nvidia’s latest flagship, the “RTX 5090” has changed my mind forever.
I’ll not buy the RTX 5090 card even though it has the fastest GDDR7 RAM, gigantic VRAM, and other bells and whistles to it. I’ve come up with several reasons that I’ll mention in this article.
Let me mention the most important reason to stay away from RTX 5090, and that’s the “Insanely Higher Price Tag”. The RTX 5090 is being sold for $4000 to $4500 on eBay in the United States.
I’ll advise you to have patience and wait for the price to go down in the coming months.
I’ve posted my question regarding the expensive price of RTX 5090 in different gaming subreddits. Most people replied that this card is an “Overkill for Gaming” if your only goal is to play games.

From the screenshot I’ve taken from the r/buildapc subreddit, it’s clear that this GPU is overpriced for gamers.
I’m not against the new tech and features that RTX 5090 brings to your gaming desk. The only point I want to prove here is that this GPU is insanely expensive.
Come on, you can build a powerful gaming PC for the money you’ll waste on buying the RTX 5090 graphics card.
Alex Wawro from Toms Hardware mentioned that RTX 5090 is overpriced for now, and this isn’t the right time to buy this card for gaming.
The Nvidia RTX 40-Series Chip Are Still Enough
Any latest AAA or eSports game, currently at the time of writing this article can be played with RTX 40-Series graphics card. Just grab my favorite RTX 4070 graphics card and I bet it’ll steal the gaming show.
Current PC games are well-optimized for RTX 40-Series cards. You can max out any AAA or eSports game on upper-tier RTX 40-Series GPUs. If this is the case, then it doesn’t make any sense to buy the RTX 5090 card.

As per my personal experience, there’s no need to buy any card from RTX-50 Series for now. Let the hype cool down and the stocks to even in the online stores and local shops.
I now wait for special events like Amazon Prime, Black Friday, or Cyber Monday to grab cheap deals on new Nvidia chips.
PC Games Don’t Need RTX 5090 For Now
Just Google the hardware requirement for any game on the planet, you will not find RTX 5090 anywhere near the “Recommended Requirements” list.
If somehow you are craving for RTX 5090, don’t forget that it requires you to have a 1000W PSU to run properly. I will not spend an extra grand to throw my 750W PSU (which works perfectly fine with any high-end Nvidia GPU) for RTX 5090.
Buying an RTX 5090 and 1000W PSU isn’t the end here. You will need to pair your RTX 5090 with a high-end motherboard and CPU for smoother performance.
If you are building a new gaming PC on a budget, then try going with RTX 4070 or RTX 4080 for seamless gaming performance. Both of these cards perform best with current-gen Intel and AMD CPUs.
I Will Vote for DLSS 4.0
Where I have multiple reasons to not buy RTX 5090 this year, I’ll praise the innovative DLSS 4.0 technology it brings to the table. I’m a fan of DLSS from the time Nvidia introduced it in the RTX-20 Series chips.
And now, when we have DLSS 4.0 on RTX-50 Series video cards, there’s no doubt that we’ll experience improved FPS and superior image quality in the games that support this feature.
You’ll know the importance of DLSS once you play games that hit hard on FPS at 4K settings. For example, CyberPunk 2077 or Silent Hill 2 with DLSS turned on results in significant FPS gains.
The Ending Lines
I know every gamer out there is eager to build the best gaming PC in 2025, powered by the RTX 5090 graphics card. But if you’re like me and always regret buying an Nvidia GPU at launch, now is not the time to get this card. It’s a great card, but the timing isn’t right.
I might wait for two or three months before buying RTX 5090. If you are too curious to buy any card from RTX-50 Series, then go with RTX 5070 or RTX 5070 Ti. Both of these cards are clipped with a decent price tag and feature DLSS 4.0.
Lastly, my bet goes with RTX 40-Series cards, at least for now. I believe that there’s still time left for RTX 40-Series cards to play any upcoming future game.
